Sometimes a story frames the big picture around global warming simply and clearly… I see this fifteen year old taking a leadership role, and ask myself: “How can I follow the example of this kid? Do I even have her guts?”
“Greta Thunberg’s protest outside of Sweden’s parliament building has made climate change a topic of that country’s daily conversation,” according to a profile by journalist Masha Gessen which appeared in The New Yorker magazine earlier this month. (Photo credit goes to Anders Hellberg.)
Essentially, Thunberg is correct in saying something us grown-ups won’t say: The time for dithering and delaying is now over, the old way of gradual change has failed and needs to be replaced with vigor and urgency, as reported by Jessica Corbett of commondreams.org discussing this month’s stark warning by the UN.
It is awesome that fifteen year old Thunberg addressed a crowd of 10,000 last Saturday in Helsinki saying, “Today we use 100 million barrels of oil every day. There are no politics to change that. There are no rules to keep that oil in the ground, so we can’t save the world by playing by the rules because the rules have to change. Everything needs to change and it has to start today.”
I ask that you share her call to action with others you know, who are interested but not yet taking action – we will all draw inspiration from those around us.
To save the planet, use your voice.

Not sure where to start saving the planet (civilization, really)? Our Thesis is: “Start by deeply knowing your three personal Superpowers: ”
3) To save the planet, USE YOUR VOICE and take advocacy seriously! Never miss a vote and never, ever stop influencing your government and all businesses locally, at the state level, and at the national level.
It falls upon you to lead the way with substantive global warming solutions.
And in all cases and at all times, cast aside the learned-helplessness that infects so much of modern life… the time is now for climate change solutions. No one else is going to do your part for you… never give up.
